Dr. Gro Harlem Brundtland led the UN Commission that wrote “Our Common Future” in 1987. This crucial document set the basis for the modern definition of Sustainable Development and created the necessary momentum to reach a global understanding at the Earth Summit (UNCED) in 1992 with the Rio Declaration and Agenda 21.
Unfortunately, 20 years later, we haven’t been able to successfully implement those guidelines and make significant progress in the way we use our resources. Moreover, environmental degradation has only broadened.
